ICRC: Humanitarian Needs Remain Critical in Lebanon as Thousands Remain Displaced

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned that humanitarian needs remain severe in Lebanon months after hostilities damaged homes, disrupted essential services and affected livelihoods across many communities.

According to the ICRC, more than 334,000 people were still displaced as of August 26, 2026, unable to return due to security concerns, damaged infrastructure and limited access to basic services.

The organization said it is expanding its humanitarian response by supporting health facilities, restoring water services and helping affected families recover their sources of income.

Healthcare access remains a major challenge, particularly in southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs, where many medical facilities were damaged or forced to close. The ICRC has provided medical supplies, equipment and fuel support to dozens of hospitals, primary healthcare centers and emergency services to help maintain operations.

The conflict has also severely affected livelihoods, especially in agricultural areas. The ICRC noted that many families lost businesses, farming equipment, livestock and other income sources, and has begun assessments to identify ways to support economic recovery.
