Holy Najaf, Holy Karbala host largest influx of Lebanese refugees, UN report says
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has released a field report detailing the latest data on refugees arriving in Iraq between September 27 and November 19, based on information from government and regional partners.
The report said that approximately 39,071 Lebanese refugees have arrived in Iraq since hostilities escalated in Lebanon.
It added that the influx of Lebanese refugees has decreased recently to an average of 500 arrivals per day, down from 700 the previous week.
The UN report pointed out that most refugees are being hosted in Holy Najaf and Holy Karbala, with smaller numbers spread across central and southern provinces, including Babylon, Baghdad, Diyala, Nineveh, Salah al-Din, and Muthanna.
The report also highlights that 493 Syrian families displaced from Lebanon have contacted UNHCR for registration in Iraq. A heat map released by UNHCR shows the geographical distribution of refugees across Iraqi cities.
