Afghanistan: Eight Injured in Attack on Muharram Ceremony in Sar-e-Pul
A violent attack during a Muharram mourning ceremony left eight people injured on Friday afternoon in Sar-e-Pul province, Amu TV reported yesterday.
The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. local time in Chobfroshan Alley, just outside Sar-e-Pul City, the source mentioned.
Eyewitnesses reported that an assailant on a motorcycle threw a hand grenade at a gathering of mourners who were preparing to proceed to the Imam Zadeh Yahya shrine.
Local sources indicate that the Taliban has not yet issued a statement regarding the attack. This incident highlights the heightened tensions surrounding Muharram ceremonies under Taliban rule, as the Taliban has imposed strict restrictions on such observances.
