Seven in ten Pakistanis lack confidence in elections, Gallup Poll Finds
A recent survey suggests that over two-thirds of Pakistani citizens do not trust the fairness of their electoral process and government as they approach the parliamentary elections on Thursday.
The U.S.-based Gallup polling company discovered that Pakistanis are increasingly disheartened by economic, political, and security challenges that pose a threat to their country’s stability, with dissatisfaction reaching a record high before the election.
The survey indicated that the political climate is just as bleak as the economic one leading up to Pakistan’s first general election since 2018.
It stated, “Seven out of 10 Pakistanis lack faith in the integrity of their elections.” Furthermore, in addition to their doubts about elections, 88% of Pakistanis also believe that corruption is widespread within their government.
