Central Arbaeen Mourning Ceremony Held in Sierra Leone with Participation of Around 300 Worshippers

The African Studies Center of the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine held a central mourning ceremony in Sierra Leone to commemorate the months of Muharram and Safar, including the observance of Arbaeen, as part of its religious and cultural outreach programs across Africa.

The event was organized under the supervision of the center’s coordinator in Sierra Leone, Sheikh Ibrahim Bah, and was attended by approximately 300 members of the local community who gathered to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and honor the legacy of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

The program featured religious lectures and cultural presentations highlighting the life of Imam Hussein, the objectives of his reform movement, and the enduring humanitarian and moral values associated with the Karbala uprising. Organizers said the ceremony reflected the participants’ strong spiritual connection to the principles of faith, justice, and sacrifice.

According to the organizers, the event forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen religious and cultural engagement with African communities, promote awareness of the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt, and support educational and outreach initiatives that expand religious knowledge among local populations.

The African Studies Center continues to implement programs in several African countries through religious gatherings, educational courses, and cultural activities aimed at promoting Islamic values and increasing awareness of the life and teachings of Ahl al-Bayt.
