The death toll from a drone strike on a popular market in Nyala, South Darfur, has risen to 102, with 113 others injured, according to the Emergency Lawyers group. Dozens of victims were reportedly buried in a mass grave.
The group, cited by Agence France-Presse on Wednesday, October 28, said a drone belonging to the Sudanese army struck Tangong Market in the Dumaya neighbourhood. A local resident said his 19-year-old son was among more than 70 victims buried at the same site. The initial death toll reported by a medical source at Nyala Hospital was 21.
Nyala is controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has made the city the seat of its rival administration. The war between the RSF and Sudanese army has continued since April 2023.
The United Nations has reported that at least 1,100 people were killed in drone attacks across Sudan during the first half of 2026, while airstrikes in October alone reportedly killed more than 300 people. The conflict has caused widespread civilian casualties and displacement.
