Rising Theft Incidents Raise Security Concerns Among Shia Residents in Western Kabul
————————————-
Residents of Shia-majority areas in western Kabul have expressed growing concern over a series of thefts in recent days, warning that worsening poverty, unemployment and living conditions are adding to social pressures and insecurity.

A local source reported six theft incidents in four days across several parts of western Kabul. The incidents reportedly included break-ins and the theft of mobile phones and cash, raising concerns among residents about the safety of their families and property.

More than one million people live in western Kabul, including Shia families displaced from central Afghanistan by drought and inadequate basic services. Their arrival has added pressure on local resources, employment opportunities and public services.

Residents are calling for stronger security measures alongside economic and social support programmes, particularly for unemployed young people and displaced families, to help reduce crime and protect community stability.
