According to data published by Spain’s Ministry of the Interior, hate crimes and hate-related incidents reached their highest level in 2025 since official statistics began being collected in 2014.
According to the website Mars30, law enforcement authorities investigated a total of 2,417 hate-related offenses, marking a 23.6 percent increase compared with the previous year.
Although racism and xenophobia remained the most common categories, with 934 recorded cases, Islamophobia saw the sharpest rise.
Offenses targeting Muslims increased by 133 percent compared with 2024, reaching 35 cases. In the digital sphere, the increase was even more pronounced, with a 450 percent rise in reported Islamophobic content or acts online.
The report also noted a significant increase in crimes motivated by discrimination against people with disabilities, up 90 percent, as well as antisemitic acts, which rose by 86.5 percent.
Offenses related to gender identity ranked second, with 571 recorded cases.
Spanish authorities also expressed concern over the growing involvement of minors, both as victims and as perpetrators.
They further warned about the spread of hate speech on social media, where Islamophobia is among the fastest-growing forms of hatred.
