Recent reports indicate a wave of arrests in Bahrain amid heightened regional tensions linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict, with human rights groups and media outlets raising concerns over the targeting of dissenting voices, including members of the Shiite community.

According to verified reporting, Bahraini authorities have detained dozens to more than 200 individuals in recent weeks. These arrests have been linked to activities such as participating in protests, posting online content, or allegedly supporting Iran during the regional escalation.

Rights organizations say many of those detained are Shiite citizens, reflecting the country’s sensitive sectarian landscape, while also reporting difficulties in accessing detainees and allegations of mistreatment. At least one death in custody has further intensified scrutiny of the crackdown.

However, Bahraini authorities deny that the arrests are sectarian in nature, stating that actions are based on national security concerns, including accusations of espionage, incitement, or spreading hostile propaganda.

According to Shia Waves Agency, there have been arrests affecting Shiite figures in the state of Kuwait, as well. Several Shia personalities, scholars and citizens have been reportedly detained based on alleged security breaches and/or expressed affiliation with Iranian regime.
