Conflict in Parachinar Claims Lives of 128 Children

Former federal minister Sajid Hussain Tori reported on Sunday that at least 128 children have died in Parachinar since the onset of violent tribal clashes nearly three months ago, Dawn Newspaper reported yesterday.

The conflict, which began in November, has resulted in over 100 fatalities and has left Kurram district isolated due to closed roads, including the vital Parachinar-Peshawar highway.

The violence escalated after a convoy was attacked in the Bagan area, killing at least 50 people. A grand jirga held in Kohat attempted to address the situation but reached no agreement. Tori highlighted the dire conditions, stating that hospitals lack essential medicines, leading to the deaths of children and vulnerable patients.

In Karachi, the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) has organized sit-ins to protest the killings in Parachinar, blocking major roads and vowing to continue until their demands are met. The situation remains critical as residents face severe shortages of resources.
