Floods in North Maluku, Indonesia, Claim 13 Lives
Thirteen people were killed and two injured in North Maluku province on Sunday due to severe flooding triggered by heavy rainfall, Arab News reported yesterday.
The floods, which began on Saturday, caused significant damage, destroying ten houses in Ternate city. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that search and rescue operations are ongoing, with teams deployed to assist in evacuating victims affected by landslides and debris carried by floodwaters.
BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari urged residents to remain vigilant and heed warnings from authorities, as forecasts indicate that heavy rain may persist in the coming days. This tragic incident follows a similar disaster in May, when flash floods and mudslides in West Sumatra resulted in over 60 fatalities. The community is rallying together to support those impacted as recovery efforts continue.
