UN human rights chief expresses serious concern over increase in Sudan violence

The UN Human Rights chief on Friday expressed grave concern over the escalating violence in Sudan’s El-Fasher city in North Darfur, where dozens of people have been killed in the past two weeks, Anadolu Agency reported.

The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces has intensified, with indiscriminate attacks using explosive weapons in residential areas, the source mentioned.

It added that at least 43 people, including women and children, have been killed in the fighting, with civilians trapped in the city, afraid to flee.

According to Volker Turk, there is a severe shortage of essential supplies, and humanitarian aid delivery is constrained by the fighting.

The UN has described the situation in Sudan as the largest internal displacement crisis globally.

Additionally, there are reports of sexual violence against women and girls, prompting an appeal for more international engagement to combat these barbaric acts.
