Jawaharlal Nehru University Hosts ‘Day of Peace’ to Commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Prophet Muhammad
Jawaharlal Nehru University in the Indian capital, New Delhi, hosted a cultural and intellectual event titled ‘Day of Peace’, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the esteemed Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), involving academicians, students, and intellectuals from various Indian universities.
The event was organized by the charitable association ‘Mercy to the World’, with the aim of introducing the teachings of the revered Prophet (PBUH) and the values of peace, love, justice, equality, and tolerance, while discussing their significance in promoting harmony and coexistence within contemporary societies.
The program included speeches and lectures that addressed various aspects of the noble Prophetic biography, particularly the principles of human dignity and equality among people, the rejection of discrimination based on race, color, or origin, alongside women’s rights and their status in Islam.
Participants also discussed the humanitarian principles mentioned in the Farewell Sermon, emphasizing the unity of human origin and the necessity for human dignity to transcend social divisions and biases, asserting that the values of justice and equality should form the basis of relations among members of society.
The lectures touched upon the social, political, and cultural conditions in Mecca and Medina during the era of the esteemed Prophet (PBUH), and the social transformation instigated by the Islamic message, based on justice and equality, challenging hierarchy and discrimination among people.
The event also shed light on the rights of neighbors in Islamic teachings, emphasizing that human responsibility towards neighbors is not confined to adherents of a particular faith but extends to various components of society, with a call to assist those in need and establish tolerance in daily interactions.
The program saw the attendance of students, faculty members, and staff from various departments of Jawaharlal Nehru University, concluding with an affirmation of the importance of drawing inspiration from the Prophetic biography in spreading peace, justice, and equality, and enhancing coexistence and social harmony, especially in religiously and culturally diverse societies.
