Death Toll From Nepal Flooding and Landslides Rises to 66; 69 Missing
Deaht toll from continuous rainfall and subsequent devastating flooding and landslides in Nepal has risen to at least 66, with 69 people missing, Associated Press reported on Saturday.
The downpour, which began Friday night, is expected to persist over the weekend. Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari confirmed that 34 fatalities occurred in the capital, Kathmandu, with 60 individuals injured and 3,010 rescued nationwide. Security forces, including the army, have been mobilized for rescue operations as several roads, including key highways, remain blocked by landslides.
The government has issued flood warnings and restricted nighttime travel on highways to ensure safety amid the ongoing crisis.
