Pakistani Court Denies Bail to Imran Khan and Wife in Graft Case

A Pakistani court has denied bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in a graft case, Arab News reported citing their lawyer.

This marks another setback for Khan, who has been imprisoned for over a year following multiple convictions. Since his ousting in a no-confidence vote in 2022, Khan has faced more than 150 legal cases.

The couple is accused of unlawfully retaining and selling state gifts during Khan’s tenure. While officials can purchase gifts from foreign dignitaries, they must declare any sales, which Khan allegedly undervalued. The bail hearing took place at Adiala prison, where they are held in separate cells.

Khan’s spokesman claimed Bibi is being mistreated in prison, alleging that officers forcibly removed her hijab and disrupted her cell. Oct. 2 has been set for the couple’s indictment. Authorities have not yet responded to the claims of mistreatment.
