Lebanon Raises War Death Toll to 2,454 Amid Fragile Ceasefire and Ongoing Tensions

Lebanon’s government has updated the confirmed death toll from the current conflict between Israel and Hezbollah to 2,454 people, as a fragile 10‑day ceasefire continues to hold in parts of the country after six weeks of intensive fighting. The government’s disaster risk management unit also reported that 7,658 people have been wounded during the hostilities.

The conflict began on March 2, 2026, shortly after Hezbollah entered the broader Middle East war involving Israel and Iran, prompting large‑scale Israeli airstrikes and exchanges of rocket fire along the Lebanon‑Israel border. Authorities and rescue teams have been recovering and identifying bodies in areas that suffered heavy bombardment prior to the ceasefire.

Despite the agreed pause in hostilities, bursts of violence have continued. Reports indicate Hezbollah has accused Israel of breaching the truce, while Israeli forces maintain that Hezbollah violations justify defensive actions.

The human toll of the conflict is reflected in scenes across southern Lebanon, where villages have held funerals for both fighters and civilians killed before the ceasefire, showing the deep communal impact of the violence.
