Taliban Seize Large Tract of Land in Kabul, Raising Property Rights Concerns

According to a report by Hasht-e Subh Daily, Taliban authorities have confiscated more than 1,500 hectares of land in the “Omid-e Sabz” township in western Kabul. The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice stated that a special court reviewing land disputes classified the area as state-owned and ordered it to be registered under Taliban control, claiming the decision followed an examination of legal documents.
The move has sparked widespread concern, as parts of the seized land are believed to belong to private owners. Critics view the move as part of a broader pattern of land appropriation by Taliban in recent years, amid ongoing complaints about the lack of an independent system to resolve property disputes.
Analysts warn that continued land seizures could undermine public trust, discourage investment in housing and urban development, and intensify social tensions across Afghanistan. Residents and observers have called for transparent and impartial mechanisms to protect property rights and address land ownership claims fairly.
