Iran: Shahcheragh shrine in Shiraz comes under successive two-stage armed attacks, killing 1, wounding 8

News sources revealed on Sunday, August 13th, that there were two stages of terrorist attacks at around 19:00 local time in the Shahcheragh Shrine of Ahmad bin Musa, peace be upon them, in Shiraz.

Based on the initial reports, it was announced that four people were martyred and 2 people were severely injured, with two of the deceased being servants of this sacred shrine.

However, updated news stated that eight people had actually been wounded by bullets and a 69-year-old servant of this holy shrine martyred.

Initial reports also announced that one of the terrorists had been arrested, with another fugitive on the run who is being pursued by the security forces and the police. Meanwhile, on Monday morning, the Chief Justice of Fars province announced the arrest of 4 suspects linked with the incident.

The terrorists entered Shahcheragh Holy Shrine with firearms from Bab al-Mahdi and immediately started shooting at the police gate, pilgrims and servants of this holy shrine.

One of the arrested agents of the armed attack on Sunday was carrying a gun and 8 magazines, who had fired 11 bullets during the shooting.

The martyr of this terrorist attack is named Gholam Abbas Abbasi. The eight individuals injured in this incident were transferred to Namazi and Muslimin hospitals in Shiraz, with two of them transferred to the operating room, and one in stable medical condition.

On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, a similar terrorist attack on the Shahcheragh Shrine in Shiraz left at least 13 martyrs. Muhammad Ramez Rashidi and Naeem Hashem Qatali, the two convicts in this case, were executed in public on Saturday morning, July 8, 2023, in Shiraz.

The tomb of Ahmed, the son of Imam Musa Kazem and brother of Imam Reza, peace be upon them, known as Shahcherag, is located in the city of Shiraz. It is revered besides the shrine of Imam Ali bin Musa al-Reza in Mashhad, the shrine of Sayyidah Masoumeh in Qom, and the shrine of Abdul Azim al-Hassani in the city of Ray, peace be upon them all, as one of the most famous Shiite shrines in Iran.
