Tanzania: 155 dead, 236 injured as torrential rains batter 26 regions

Flash floods from ongoing heavy rains have caused 155 deaths and 236 injuries in Tanzania, affecting 14 out of the 26 regions and impacting 200,000 people, Xinhua reported yesterday.

According to the news agency, the floods have damaged 10,000 houses, school infrastructure, farm crops, roads, bridges, health facilities, and livestock.

The government has closed schools in severely affected areas and ordered urgent assessments of damaged roads and railways for immediate repair.

The heavy rains, influenced by El-Nino conditions, are expected to continue through May, according to the Tanzania Meteorological Authority.
