More than 130 million girls worldwide deprived of education, UN says

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says that more than 130 million girls around the world are deprived of education.

On Saturday, July 1, he issued a warning statement as a tweet, asserting that depriving girls of the right to education puts them at risk of underage marriage, violence and exploitation.

The warning of the UN Secretary General came while Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls and women do not have the right to education and work.

According to the statistics of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), more than 3.7 million children in Afghanistan are deprived of education, and about 60% of them are girls.

Despite widespread domestic and foreign protests against the ban on girls’ education in Afghanistan, the Taliban has not responded positively to the demands for the reopening of schools and universities in this country.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International has once again emphasized that removing Afghan women and girls from public life is a crime against humanity.

Amnesty International has said that arbitrary detention, torture and blatant disregard for the basic human rights of Afghan women have now become a daily norm.

This institution proclaims that the Taliban’s behavior against Afghan women can be considered a crime against humanity, encouraging the international community to rise and take action.
