Chicago-based Ojala inspires Muslims Hispanic community towards growth
Ojala Foundation is second home to many new Latino Muslims in Chicago that aims to provide education and support for the growing community in the region.
The non-profit Islamic organization, their vision statement reads, “works towards building bridges between the Muslim and Latino Communities”.
“Our mission is to foster the spiritual, moral, and intellectual growth that will positively transform the quality of our community.”, the founders say.
Ojala, meaning “hope” in Spanish, provides a series of social service opportunities to instill values and principles in the community, hoping to inspire people to create meaningful changes in their lives.
Many Hispanics (or Latin Americans) are drawn to Islam because of the emphasis this religion has on human rights, especially women’s rights.
It should be noted that Hispanics in America are mostly based in the cities of New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and California.
