Museum of Islamic Art in Athens displays artworks on Islamic Civilization
The Museum of Islamic Art in the Greek capital “Athens” is one of the most important museums in Greece and displays many collections that recall the history of the development of Islamic civilization in Greece, from the advent of Islam until the Ottoman era.
Media reported on the four-storey museum, which was inaugurated in 2004 with a collection of artifacts collected by Antonius Benaki, a Greek immigrant who lived in Muslim countries 100 years ago.
He collected Islamic artifacts from the seventh to the nineteenth centuries.
The museum displays artifacts according to their chronological order, and among these collections are many rare Islamic antiquities, professionally hand-crafted, and that show the cultures of Islamic art.
