SRW Reports Violations Against Shia Muslims in Five Countries
————————————-
The international organization Shia Rights Watch has released its monthly report documenting what it describes as violations against Shia Muslims in five countries, including violence, arrests, restrictions on religious institutions and other human rights concerns.
The report by Shia Rights Watch covers the period from early September to early October 2026 and is based on field reports, official statements and local and international rights sources.
In Afghanistan, the report cited arrests of women and members of the Shia community, as well as the closure or seizure of religious, cultural, media and service institutions in Kabul and other areas. It also referred to the closure of Shia and Hazara-related centres and a health facility in western Kabul.
In Pakistan, the organization reported a suicide attack targeting worshippers at a prayer area inside a police facility in Kohat, saying the incident resulted in more than 50 deaths and injuries.
In Bahrain, the report included mistreatment of detainees, including claims of torture, solitary confinement and psychological pressure, as well as arrests and court sentences involving imprisonment and fines. The organization also reported continued raids and detentions in several areas.
In Syria, the report documented allegations of killings, shootings, kidnappings and arrests in areas including Homs, Hama, Latakia and Masyaf. It also cited claims of torture, displacement, property seizures and attacks targeting civilians and a passenger bus that resulted in deaths and injuries.
In Saudi Arabia, the organization reported the arrest of a citizen from the Qatif region by security authorities.
The International Organization for Defending Shia Rights said the purpose of its documentation is to support principles of justice, equality and human rights. It added that cases lacking sufficient evidence or reliable documentation were excluded from the report.
