United Nations: Myanmar has become one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises

The United Nations has considered the situation in Myanmar as one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world today.
This came in a press conference held by the spokesman for the Secretary-General, Stephan Dujarric, at the headquarters of the international organization in New York.
“To date, at least 781 peaceful demonstrators have been killed since the beginning of February, many of them women and children, while thousands of others have been injured,” said Dujarric.
“Now in its fourth month, the military coup in Myanmar has rapidly become one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world today,” he added.
“Our colleagues in the field say they are still terrified of the ongoing violence at the hands of the security forces, since the army seized power on February 1.”
Last February, military leaders in Myanmar carried out a military coup, followed by the arrest of senior leaders in the country, including President Win Myint and Chancellor Aung San Sochi.
At the end of last April, more than 200 human rights and non-governmental organizations around the world called on the Security Council to impose an immediate ban on arms exports to Myanmar, with the aim of stopping the violation of human rights against those who reject the military coup.
