The decision to ban the wearing of hijabs for female students under the age of 14 has sparked controversy at a school in the Austrian capital, Vienna, amid concerns about its impact on Muslim students and families. According to a teacher at an elementary school, two girls in her class who wear hijabs are experiencing anxiety and uncertainty about what will happen when the decision is enforced. She noted that the issue has ignited discussions between the school and some parents.
She added that the father of one of the students expressed his strong opposition to the ban, stating that he might move with his family to Syria if the decision is strictly implemented and his daughter is prohibited from wearing her hijab at school. Simultaneously, the teacher pointed out that there are different kinds of pressures within the school environment. According to her testimony, some girls who do not wear hijabs face harassment and mockery from some students, who urge them to cover their hair.
