The National Council of Muslims of Canada called on the Ontario authorities to correct misconceptions about Islam in textbooks.
A statement issued by the council stated that it had sent an objection to the Minister of Education in the Ontario Province, Stephen Lecce, to correct the obscene statements.
It pointed out that the Ontario Virtual School had given misleading information about the Islamic religion and the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny, adding, “We all know that sometimes teachers in schools intentionally or unintentionally promote misleading information or problematic views about Muslims in Canada.”
The council indicated that the students are taught that Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny, wrote the Qur’an in a cave, and that God came to this cave and spoke with Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny.
In its statement to the minister, the council confirmed that the school had provided students with this wrong information, stressing that the council requested the minister to correct information about the Islamic religion in the school curriculum.
