UNICEF calls for end to child detention, urges continued aid to Gaza

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has called for an end to the detention of children in all forms, following Israel’s release of 12 Palestinian minors from custody, Anadolu Agency reported. UNICEF welcomed the release of children as young as 15, as well as young adults who had been detained during their childhood.

The agency emphasized the importance of upholding the Gaza ceasefire agreement and called for the release of all hostages, including children. UNICEF also reported that over 350 trucks carrying essential aid have entered Gaza, providing water, hygiene kits, malnutrition treatments, and warm clothing to families in need.

Despite the relief, UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by over 1 million children in Gaza. The agency aims to scale up humanitarian efforts, with a target of 50 trucks per day, while urging the international community to ensure continued support.
