UNRWA: Access to food in Gaza becomes nearly impossible
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) warned on Sunday that over 2 million displaced Palestinians in Gaza face “hunger, thirst, and disease,” describing access to food as an “impossible task” for families in the besieged enclave.
According to UN agency, food supplies entering Gaza cover less than 6% of the population’s needs, creating severe shortages, especially of bread, and forcing many bakeries to shut down in southern Gaza.
Displacement camps are overwhelmed, with families enduring hunger, cold, and poor health due to insufficient aid. UNRWA called for fully reopening border crossings to prevent famine and address worsening malnutrition and disease.
The ongoing conflict has left Gaza without safe zones, with even UN shelters targeted. Since October 7, over 148,000 casualties have been reported, including widespread destruction and famine, marking one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
