In a remarkable display of communal harmony during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Salim, a Muslim resident of Varanasi, has opened his home to stranded Hindu pilgrims facing accommodation shortages, Clarion online newsletter reported. With hotels fully booked and prices soaring, many devotees found themselves without shelter.
Salim’s act of kindness quickly gained attention on social media, showcasing emotional scenes of gratitude from the pilgrims he welcomed. One devotee, Vedh Singh, expressed his initial hesitation upon learning Salim was Muslim but praised his warmth and generosity, stating, “His kindness made me feel like part of his family.”
