FIR Filed Against BJP Leader for Assault on Bengali-Origin Workers in Assam
An FIR has been lodged against Mayur Borgohain, a BJP leader from Charaideo district, Assam, following allegations of assault and threats against Bengali-origin Muslim workers, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.
The complaint, filed by nine workers from Barpeta district, accuses Borgohain’s associates of attacking them after Assamese nationalist groups called for Miya Muslims to leave Upper Assam.
The FIR, registered on August 26, includes charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, and criminal intimidation. The workers, employed by Borgohain for a skill development center, allege they were assaulted by 14 to 15 masked men on August 24, who threatened them with weapons and demanded they leave without receiving their pending payment of Rs 15 lakh.
The workers have provided video evidence of the attack and fled the district fearing further violence. This incident follows comments from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opposing the migration of Miya Muslims, stating, “We will not allow Assam to become Miyaland.”
