Major public competition in India’s Uttar Pradesh, winner to be sent to Holy Karbala

The authorities of the famous Indian industrial city of Kanpur, a part of the predominantly Shia-populated Uttar Pradesh province, held a public competition and a prize of a fully paid trip to the holy city of Karbala.

The Indian “Live Hindustan” newspaper reported that “the city of Kanpur, a part of the Uttar Pradesh province with a majority of Shia Muslims, witnessed on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the holding of a public competition, amid a remarkable public and official attendance.”

The report added that “among the most prominent attendees were scholars from all over the country, including Maulana Qabi Saeed Dali and Maulana Amir Hamza Ashraf, as well as well-known poets such as Ali Atar Razvi, Syed Kabir Zaid, Hajj Mansur Ali Razvi, and Ali Atar Razvi, as well as academics and local officials.”

The newspaper concluded that “a later ceremony will be held on the 26th of November to select the winners to the free trip to the holy shrines in Iraq through a public draw.”
