Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Emphasizes Importance of Self-Purification and Continuous Spiritual Growth

The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi (may Allah prolong his life), emphasized the importance of consistently striving for self-purification and advancing in spiritual purity, piety, and righteous deeds. He cautioned against neglecting one’s personal responsibility for spiritual and moral development, regardless of one’s level of knowledge or role in teaching and guiding others.

His Eminence explained that a person may be surprised on the Day of Judgment to discover that some of those who learned from them or were guided through their teachings have surpassed them in spiritual ranks. This may be the result of their greater commitment to piety, purification of the soul, serving others, and guiding people towards righteousness.

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated: “There is something we should always keep in mind: on the Day of Judgment, we may see that some of those who learned from us, or from me, have surpassed us and advanced beyond us.”

He further explained that a student may achieve spiritual and moral levels that their teacher has not attained, despite having benefited from that teacher’s knowledge and guidance.

In this context, His Eminence highlighted the regret a person may experience upon witnessing others attain much higher spiritual ranks on the Day of Judgment, despite having once been their teacher or guide. He posed the question: “Is this not something that deserves a person’s regret?”
