Anti-Islam March in Detroit Raises Concerns Over Rising Anti-Muslim Hate Speech

A march opposing Islam took place in downtown Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday, with participants chanting inflammatory slogans against Muslims and displaying signs opposing their presence in the United States. Police maintained a security presence around the demonstration near Cass Technical High School to prevent clashes and preserve public order.

Participants used loudspeakers to chant slogans including “Death to Islam,” “This is a Christian nation,” and “We will not be invaded by Muslims.” They also carried American flags and anti-Muslim placards, alongside slogans supporting Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers.

The march was led by right-wing activist Jake Lang, who is known for organizing anti-Islam protests. In August, Lang organized a demonstration in the predominantly Muslim city of Dearborn under the banner “Christian Crusaders.” That protest ended with 22 people being arrested.

Detroit police escorted the marchers and established a security perimeter around them in an effort to maintain order and prevent confrontations.

The demonstration took place hours before a scheduled campaign rally at Cass Technical High School featuring former US President Barack Obama. The rally was organized in support of Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, a Muslim physician of Egyptian origin, and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson.
