Holy Quran Desecrated in Islamophobic Incident at Sheffield Mosque

A copy of the Holy Quran was desecrated in an alleged Islamophobic incident targeting the Wybourn Islamic Center in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.

Local MP Louise Haigh described the incident as “another disturbing incident, the second in as many months.”

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Islamic center condemned the act as a “provocative act of desecration and disrespect towards the Holy Quran” and confirmed that the incident had been reported to South Yorkshire Police.

Police officers attended the center, reviewed CCTV footage, collected fingerprints from the desecrated copy of the Quran and interviewed regular attendees as part of their investigation.

The center contacted Haigh, with Mohammad Ali Toosy serving as its representative. The MP subsequently issued a statement about the incident on Facebook.

The incident comes amid reports of rising anti-Muslim hate crimes and Islamophobic incidents targeting Muslims and Islamic places of worship across the United Kingdom in recent months.
