“Al-Muslim Al-Hurr” on World Humanitarian Day: Protecting Relief Workers and Promoting Peace is an International Responsibility
The Global Nonviolence Organization, “Al-Muslim Al-Hurr,” has issued a statement on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, which is observed every year on August 19th. In the statement, the organization commends the sacrifices made by relief workers and volunteers operating in crisis, war, and disaster zones, and calls for their protection and the enhancement of humanitarian support for the needy worldwide.
The organization stated that on this occasion, it remembers the sacrifices made by humanitarian workers to save the lives of the vulnerable and oppressed, amidst the expansion of armed conflicts, economic crises, and climate changes, which have resulted in millions of displaced persons, refugees, and impoverished individuals.
The organization condemned attacks and violations targeting relief and medical staff in conflict zones, asserting that targeting humanitarian workers constitutes a breach of international humanitarian law and called for accountability for those responsible for these violations.
“Al-Muslim Al-Hurr” emphasized that humanitarian work is linked to the culture of nonviolence and the promotion of peace, considering wars and conflicts as major causes of humanitarian tragedies. It stated that dialogue and the renunciation of hatred are fundamental to achieving sustainable peace and protecting societies.
The organization urged the international community, governments, and relevant institutions to double financial and logistical support for affected areas and ensure that aid reaches those in need promptly, without discrimination or politicization.
The organization highlighted the importance of invoking ethical and humanitarian principles derived from Islamic teachings, foremost among them being the preservation of human dignity and the relief of the needy, regardless of their religion, race, or affiliation.
“Al-Muslim Al-Hurr” concluded its statement by saluting humanitarian organizations, relief workers, and volunteers who continue their work under difficult circumstances, expressing its hope that security, peace, and love will prevail, and that the suffering of the oppressed and needy around the world will diminish.
