The Shirazi Authority: The Period of Mourning for the Ahl al-Bayt Continues Until the Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Imam al-Askari (peace be upon him)
The supreme religious authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi (may his shadow last), affirmed that the period of mourning for the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) continues until the eighth of Rabi’ al-Awwal, which coincides with the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Askari (peace be upon him).
His Eminence stated that the believers commemorate these days with sorrow and sympathy, following the example of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and in compliance with what is narrated from the Infallibles (peace be upon them): “They rejoice in our happiness and grieve in our sadness.”
Grand Ayatollah Shirazi explained that the eighth of Rabi’ al-Awwal marks the conclusion of the mourning period with the anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Askari’s (peace be upon him) martyrdom, while the ninth of the month is celebrated as a day of joy and happiness for the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
His Eminence’s directives emphasize the importance of connecting with the occasions of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), commemorating their joys and sorrows, thus strengthening the loyalty to them and emulating their conduct and path.
