Istanbul Witnesses the Launch of the “Global Assembly for the Holy Quran” to Enhance Cooperation Among Quranic Institutions

On the first day of the 11th Istanbul International Arabic Book Fair, the establishment of the “Global Assembly for the Holy Quran” was announced. This gathering included a distinguished group of scholars, reciters, and academics from various countries worldwide, aiming to build an international network that unifies institutions dedicated to serving the Holy Quran.

During a special session held as part of the exhibition, the founding committee of the assembly announced the opening of a registration platform for Quranic institutions, centers, academies, and recitation circles around the world. The launch of the assembly is considered a new step in advancing institutional Quranic efforts.

The committee explained that the idea of the project originated from Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, driven by a vision to make the Holy Quran a focal point for consolidating efforts, expertise, and energies. It aims to connect thousands of Quranic institutions worldwide within a network for cooperation and experience exchange.

The founding statement emphasized that the assembly does not aim to replace or compete with Quranic institutions but rather to serve as a “global umbrella” that preserves their independence and uniqueness. It offers them opportunities for cooperation, partnership, and exchange of expertise in scientific, educational, administrative, technical, and training fields.

The assembly seeks to establish a global knowledge base for Quranic activities, enhance the quality of education, qualify teachers and reciters, develop governance and administration, and exchange curricula, programs, and successful experiences. Additionally, it aims to identify the needs and strengths of institutions and coordinate cooperation among them.

Sheikh Ahmed Issa Al-Ma’sarawi from Egypt chairs the founding committee of the assembly, with Sheikh Abdul Rashid Al-Sufi from Qatar serving as vice president, and Ahmed Shukri Shabsoogh from Jordan as secretary-general, alongside members from several Arab, Islamic, and Western countries.

The launch of the assembly coincides with the opening of the Istanbul International Arabic Book Fair on Saturday, August 15, 2026, under the slogan “The Story Continues.” The fair is set to run until August 23, featuring participation from over 300 publishing houses from more than 30 countries.

The exhibition is expected to welcome over 120,000 visitors at the Eurasia Exhibition and Arts Center in the Yeni Kapi area, serving as a platform for publishers, writers, researchers, academics, students, and individuals interested in the Arabic language and culture to meet.
