7 People Dead and 12 Others Injured in a Stampede at a Temple in India

At least seven people lost their lives and more than 12 others were injured on Monday morning following a stampede at the Ashok Dham Temple in the Lakhisarai district of Bihar, eastern India, during a religious gathering attended by tens of thousands.

Indian media reported that approximately 50,000 people flocked to the temple to participate in the religious ceremonies. The arrival of two trains in quick succession considerably increased the number of attendees.

Shailendra Kumar, the chief administrator of the Lakhisarai district, stated that the massive influx of the crowd led to the collapse of a fence in part of the site, causing several people to fall and others to trample over them.

Local reports have indicated information about a power pole or wire falling at the scene of the incident, resulting in some people experiencing electric shocks. However, the authorities have not officially confirmed these reports yet.

Specialized agencies are continuing their investigations to determine the precise causes and circumstances of the incident, while also monitoring the conditions of the injured and providing them with medical care.
