OIC Calls for Greater Women’s Empowerment at Ministerial Conference in Pakistan
—————————————–
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called on member states to strengthen women’s participation in political, economic, educational, and social fields, as its ninth Ministerial Conference on Women concluded in Pakistan.
The two-day conference, hosted by Pakistan’s Ministry of Human Rights in cooperation with the OIC, brought together around 190 delegates from the organization’s 57 member states, including ministers, senior officials, and observers. The meeting focused on the theme of women’s social, economic, and political empowerment and discussed strategies to advance women’s roles in society.
The conference adopted the Islamabad Declaration on Women’s Empowerment, which recognizes women’s participation as a key element of sustainable development and calls for greater cooperation in expanding access to education, healthcare, employment, entrepreneurship, financial services, technology, and digital opportunities.
Delegates also elected new members of the OIC Women’s Advisory Council and approved a comprehensive resolution to guide future policies and programs on women’s empowerment.
The discussions took place amid ongoing international attention on restrictions facing women in some OIC member states, including Afghanistan, where women and girls continue to face limitations on education, employment, and public participation.
