Shia Mourners Raise Husseini Flags in Bahrain’s Al-Diraz Despite Restrictions

Shia mourners in Bahrain’s Al-Diraz area raised black flags of mourning for Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, as Muharram began, despite reported restrictions on public displays of Ashura symbols.
According to Middle East News, devotees of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, marked the start of Muharram by raising the mourning banner of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, over homes and streets in Al-Diraz.
The move came amid reports that Bahraini authorities had imposed strict limits on placing mourning banners and other Husseini symbols in public spaces.
Residents and mourners nevertheless continued the annual practice, describing the black flags as an expression of loyalty to Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and a reaffirmation of their Ashura identity.
Muharram is a major religious season for Shia Muslims in Bahrain and across the region, with mourning gatherings, processions and public commemorations held in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, his family and his companions, peace be upon them, in Karbala.
The raising of mourning flags in Al-Diraz reflects the determination of local Shia communities to preserve Husseini rituals and keep the message of Ashura alive despite security pressures.
