The Shia Cleric, Shirazi: Muharram, Safar, and the Days of Mohseniya are the Season of Mourning for Ahl al-Bayt, while the Ninth of Rabi’ al-Awwal ushers in Breezes of Joy

His Eminence, the Grand Religious Authority Ayatollah Al-Uzma Sayed Sadiq Hussaini Shirazi (may his shadow last), confirmed that the days of the months of Muharram and Safar, along with the Days of Mohseniya, represent a season of mourning for the followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). In contrast, the arrival of the ninth of Rabi’ al-Awwal brings with it breezes of joy and happiness for Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and their Shiites.

In one of his directives, His Eminence stated: “The days of the months of Muharram and Safar, and the Days of Mohseniya, are the season of mourning for the followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). When the ninth of Rabi’ al-Awwal arrives, breezes of joy sweep over Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).”

Ayatollah Shirazi clarified that the connection between the Shiites and Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) is not limited to heartfelt emotions but is embodied in various aspects of life and behavior, where they participate in both mourning and celebratory occasions, expressing this connection through their practices and stances.

He added: “The Shiites do not only join Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in both sorrow and joy with their hearts but also reflect it in the manifestations of their lives and behaviors; because loyalty and renunciation are fundamental pillars of religiosity.”

Ayatollah Shirazi’s words shed light on the importance of commemorating occasions linked to Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and reinforcing the culture of loyalty to them and connection to their paths and methods, viewing it as part of the religious and behavioral identity for the followers of the School of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

During the months of Muharram and Safar, and the Days of Mohseniya, Shia communities witness the holding of gatherings and mourning ceremonies to commemorate the tragedies of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). Meanwhile, the ninth of Rabi’ al-Awwal marks the beginning of joy after the season of mourning and lamentation, according to the instructions of Ayatollah Shirazi.
