Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Arbaeen Pilgrimage Is a Path of Reform, Piety That Extends Throughout Believer’s Life

The Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, has issued a series of recommendations to the pilgrims and those serving during the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), emphasizing that this great occasion is not merely a temporary event that ends on the 20th of Safar, but rather a continuous spiritual and moral path in the life of a believer.

In a statement published on his official office website, His Eminence said: “Dear pilgrims, this Arbaeen pilgrimage is the path of repentance, seeking forgiveness, and purification, and a way of self-accountability and determination to refrain from what God has prohibited. The path of Arbaeen does not end in the city of Karbala on the 20th of Safar; rather, it begins and continues with the Shia believer everywhere until the final day of his life.”

He explained that Arbaeen is not only a journey of mourning and expressing sympathy, but also a way of life embodied in the millions-strong gathering that brings together believing men and women from different parts of the world.

The religious authority stated that the pilgrimage represents an opportunity for every believer to review their conduct, correct their path, and align their lives with the teachings of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). He stressed that the essence of faith is reflected in piety in words and actions, noble morals, and striving to benefit others in pursuit of the pleasure of Almighty God.

Ayatollah Shirazi concluded by stating: “The path of Arbaeen is a path of evaluation, correction, reflection, self-accountability, determination, and willpower for those who seek dignity and happiness in their lives and wish for salvation in the Hereafter and the great success.”
