Seoul Central Mosque Serves as Key Islamic Center in South Korea

Seoul Central Mosque has developed into a major Islamic center in South Korea, combining worship, education, outreach and community-building under the supervision of the Korea Muslim Federation.

Located in the heart of Seoul, the mosque welcomes Muslims from different nationalities and cultures. Its Friday sermons are delivered in several languages, including Arabic, Korean and English, allowing worshippers from diverse backgrounds to understand and engage with the religious message.

The Korea Muslim Federation also organizes regular youth programmes, including Quran lessons, classes on the Prophet’s biography and interactive educational workshops aimed at strengthening Islamic identity among younger generations while encouraging positive integration into Korean society.

The mosque also runs monthly introductory Islam courses covering basic beliefs, acts of worship, Islamic history, practical training in ablution and prayer, and memorization of short Quranic chapters. Some participants later formally embrace Islam through ceremonies held with the wider Muslim community.

Beyond religious education, the mosque promotes social ties between new and long-standing Muslims through lectures, workshops and community activities. It also engages with Korean society through Korean-language programmes and cooperation with local and international institutions.

Opened in 1976, Seoul Central Mosque remains South Korea’s most prominent Islamic landmark and a central hub for Muslim life, education, outreach and interfaith understanding.
