Hundreds of protesters marched in Herat on Tuesday during the funeral of victims killed in a recent attack on Shiite worshippers, according to Afghanistan International.
The protesters reportedly carried photos of the victims while chanting slogans as they took part in the procession.
The demonstration went ahead despite earlier efforts by Taliban authorities to prevent it.
Residents had planned the procession to coincide with the transfer of the victims’ bodies from Sadiqiya madrasa to a shrine known as Mir Abdul Wahid Shaheed.
Meanwhile, security officials in Baghlan Province said at least four people were killed and three others wounded in a shooting inside a mosque in Khwaja Khajan district.
According to local police, the attack took place on Monday evening during prayers, when armed individuals opened fire on worshippers inside the mosque, causing multiple casualties.
Baghlan has witnessed repeated episodes of violence in recent years, including attacks on civilians and places of worship, raising concerns about local security and community tensions.
