Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Affirms Inevitability of Imam Mahdi’s Reappearance (peace be upon him)

During his daily scholarly session on Tuesday, 14th of Sha‘ban 1447 AH, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Husayni Shirazi addressed theological and jurisprudential questions from attendees, including a discussion on the awaited reappearance of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).

Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated unequivocally that the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) is certain, and there is no possibility of it not occurring. He emphasized that while some of the prophesied signs of the reappearance may not necessarily manifest, the actual event of the Imam’s appearance is guaranteed.

Referring to a narration from Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him), Grand Ayatollah Shirazi noted that the Imam explained that even if some of the decisive signs do not occur, Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) will still reappear. “The emergence of the Imam is inevitable,” he said, underscoring the certainty highlighted in multiple narrations.

His Eminence further cited Quranic guidance, referencing Surah Al-Imran, verse 9, which states, “Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise”. He explained that the promise of the Imam’s reappearance is a divine pledge, which will certainly be fulfilled. However, he clarified that some conditions or signs associated with the reappearance may remain unfulfilled, yet this will not prevent the actual event from taking place.
