Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced plans to introduce a national bravery medal following the deadly terror attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Khaama Press reported. The proposed award would honour civilians and emergency responders who risked their lives to help others during terror attacks and mass casualty incidents.

Albanese said the initiative was inspired by acts of courage shown during the Bondi Beach attack, including assistance provided by members of the public such as Syrian-Australian Ahmed al-Ahmad. The prime minister also indicated that the government is reviewing Australia’s gun laws in response to the attack, which killed 15 people during a Hanukkah gathering and injured dozens more.
