Expert Warns Smart Kettles, Toys Can Be Hacked for Major Security Breaches

Ethical hacker Ken Munro warned that seemingly harmless Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as smart kettles and talking dolls, pose significant security vulnerabilities that can be exploited for major breaches, according to Anadolu Agency.

During a “live hacking” session at Türkiye Innovation Week, Munro demonstrated how easily minor security flaws in even the simplest connected devices can be targeted by cybercriminals.

He urged users to take simple, effective steps to protect their online security, focusing on two key actions:

Strong Passwords: Never reuse the same password across multiple platforms, as this allows hackers to compromise all accounts if one is stolen.

Regular Updates: Users must update all devices—smartphones, computers, TVs, and even smart appliances—as software updates are critical for patching security flaws.

Munro also advised changing home Wi-Fi passwords from the default ones and utilizing a multi-factor authenticator for an extra layer of protection.
