An ancient scroll that was completely burned and turned to charcoal nearly 2,000 years ago during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius has finally been read without being opened or damaged, thanks to artificial intelligence technology.
Scientists were able to recover the text of the fragile document, revealing that it contained philosophical writings on ethics and human nature.
According to the international news network Euronews, the valuable scroll is part of a large ancient library containing around 1,800 writings that had been buried beneath the ruins of a luxurious Roman villa.
The collection is considered the only complete surviving library from the ancient Greek and Roman world, and scientists are now beginning to uncover its long-hidden secrets.
