Iraq Prepares Borders and Roads to Facilitate Arbaeen Pilgrim Movement to Karbala

Iraqi authorities have announced full readiness at all border crossings and key transportation routes to receive millions of pilgrims arriving for the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), with measures underway to ensure smooth and secure movement during the annual religious event.

All major border points are operating under enhanced preparations, with officials confirming that the entry and exit procedures for pilgrims are continuing without major difficulties. Infrastructure challenges at crossings including Mehran, Shalamcheh, Chazabeh, and Khosravi have been addressed, while security measures have been strengthened.

Authorities and specialists have advised pilgrims to choose the nearest available border crossing to reduce waiting times, particularly amid high temperatures and the expected increase in visitor numbers during peak pilgrimage days.

Meanwhile, Iraq’s road authorities have launched an urgent project to rehabilitate and expand the ring road in the city of Al-Hindiya, located near Karbala, in order to reduce traffic congestion and improve access routes for Arbaeen visitors.

The project includes road improvements and safety measures along one of the main routes used by pilgrims, aiming to ease traffic bottlenecks, increase road capacity, and ensure safer and faster movement of pilgrimage convoys during the busiest days of Arbaeen.

The combined border, transportation, and infrastructure preparations are part of Iraq’s broader plan to support the arrival of millions of pilgrims to the holy city of Karbala and provide secure and efficient services throughout the Arbaeen season.
