Anti-Migrant Protests Sweep Multiple UK Cities
……………
Several British cities witnessed anti-migrant demonstrations on Saturday, with protesters demanding the expulsion of undocumented migrants and tighter border controls. According to Sky News, rallies took place in Bristol, Exeter, Tamworth, Cannock, Aberdeen, Mould, Perth, Nuneaton, Liverpool, Wakefield, Newcastle, and Horley. In some areas, crowds gathered outside hotels housing asylum seekers.
Protesters carried signs reading “No Place for Them – Send Them Out,” “Stop the Boats,” and “Send Them Home,” while some chanted the name of far-right activist Tommy Robinson. The demonstrations reflected growing opposition to irregular migration, particularly the arrival of migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats.
Counter-protests were also staged in support of refugees. In Horley, Surrey, police formed a barrier between opposing groups and arrested three individuals. In Bristol, clashes broke out between demonstrators and police, leading to at least one arrest. A separate protest occurred outside The Bell Hotel in Epping, which has been at the center of legal disputes over housing asylum seekers.
Earlier in the week, a court issued a temporary injunction barring the use of the hotel for refugee accommodation, citing community tensions. Following that case, several local authorities signaled plans to pursue similar legal measures.
